Vance Nurkala: "Drumming 101 (The Basics of the Back Beat & Beyond)" Vance demostracted basic drumset techniques, sticking patterns and rudiments to the drumset, and talked about topics including timing, preparing mentally and hysically, maintenance of your drums and tips for working in a band. Ed Hartman: "The Very Large World of Small Percussion". Ed taught a wide variety of small percussion instruments, including tambourines, triangles, wood blocks, temple blocks, shakers, hand drums, sound effects, gongs, bass drums and cymbals. Don Dieterich "Good - Drumming with more parts of your brain" Don performed a great clinic about classic sideman drumming in a variety of styles and situations. Don is a wonderful teacher (Seattle, Shoreline, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace). He has a great warm and smooth feel to his playing. Don Dieterich received his degrees from Montana State University and Pennsylvania University. He has performed with many different groups and ensembles including the Breckenridge Chamber Orchestra, Cinco de Mayo, The Olympic Marimba Band, The Olympic Marimba Duo, Brief Encounter, Jim Lyon, and The Rhythm Boys. Don has also performed in theatre, dance, and recording studios throughout the Northwest.

Gary Gibson: “Everything about the Steel Pan" Gary demonstrated the principles behind the construction and tuning of the steel pan (Steel Drum). He talked about the various instruments of the steel pan orchestra, with recorded examples, and demonstrated his own electronic “one man band.” Gary is a world class musician. Chris Leighton: "Junk Percussion: Making a groove on anything that can be played on" Chris performed on his infamous dryer/steel barrel funky drum set, and demonstrated how to make music on anything that has an interesting sound. Everyone had a great time playing on pots, pans, plastic drums, etc. Chris Leighton’s professional drumming career began 1970. He has performed live, recorded as a studio musician, record producer, and percussion instructor in the local, regional, national, and international music scenes. He has recorded over 1200 commercials, 60 albums/CDs, and numerous movie soundtracks since 1970. Mark Walker gave an incredible clinic, who teaches at Berkelee School of Music in Boston. Mark plays with the group Oregon, and Paquito D'Rivera. Mark got into intense techniques and very subte concepts of rhythm, dynamics and style. His performance at Jazz Alley with Oregon later that evening was equally intense. Dave Samuels, the No 1 mallet player in the land! Dave is as much a therapist as player. He brings everyone in to the clinic, both through dialogue and asking students to play with him! The level of artistic musicianship, musical development, and intense committment to quality is as high as any musician in the world. If Dave is in your area, DO NOT MISS HIM!
